Our School Departments
At Rathore School, we provide a nurturing, inclusive and highly specialised learning environment for pupils with severe learning difficulties from early childhood through to young adulthood. Our 30 classes are organised across a number of departments, each designed to meet the developmental, educational and wellbeing needs of our pupils.
Lower Primary Department
Our Lower Primary classes offer a warm, play‑based and communication‑rich environment where pupils develop the foundations of learning, independence and social interaction. Activities are carefully adapted to individual needs in line with the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
Upper Primary Department
Upper Primary builds on early learning skills, with a continued emphasis on communication, emotional regulation and functional skills. Staff tailor curriculum experiences to support each pupil’s unique learning profile.
Secondary Department
The Secondary Department focuses on extending pupils’ academic, social and life skills, with personalised pathways that promote independence, emotional wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.
Multi‑Sensory Department
Our Multi‑Sensory classes offer highly individualised programmes for pupils with complex learning needs. A sensory‑based approach supports communication, engagement and regulation across the school day.
Nurture Department
The Nurture Department provides a structured, calm and relationship‑focused environment designed to help pupils develop confidence, resilience and positive emotional wellbeing. Nurture principles guide daily routines and interactions.
Post‑16 Department
Post‑16 pupils follow bespoke learning pathways that support their transition to adult life. The emphasis is on functional communication, life skills, community participation and independence.
Across all departments, pupils follow the Northern Ireland Curriculum, carefully adapted to meet their individual strengths, needs and learning styles. We promote a fully collaborative, multi‑disciplinary approach, with our therapy team working in close partnership with classroom staff to ensure appropriate, meaningful programmes are in place for class groups and individual pupils as required.
