In recognition that some children entitled to free school meals could not attend their special school due to a covid-19 related issue, food boxes were provided to those children.
However due to the increasing numbers of children in special schools remaining at home and the difficulties being experienced in providing this service, it has been decided to stand down the provision of food boxes.
Therefore direct payments in lieu of free school meals will issue to the families of all children entitled to free school meals in special schools for the period of 25 January to 12 February, in line with those in mainstream schools. There is no need to apply for the payment. Payments will be made as soon as possible during week commencing 1 February 2021. School meals, for paying pupils and pupils entitled to free school meals, will continue to be provided as normal for those children in attendance at school. From Food in Schools Team
